The March on Rome
The instability in public did not get to solve as only 35 seats for the Fascist Party in the Italian Parliament (535 seats in total) were set, while there were 300,000 members in the party by 1921.
In 1922, Mussolini carefully planned his famous March on Rome and later in October, he led 26,000 armed troops to menace March on Rome in aim to restore order. With the threat of being seized, the Parliament requested King Emmanuel III to sign emergency legislation “which would enable the government to deal with the crisis” (Workbook 50). But the king refused them, and dramatically, he asked Mussolini to form a government on 29 October. As a result, Mussolini successfully achieved what he expected for March on Rome.
Without a doubt, the March on Rome was a significant step for achieving Mussolini’s desire since he officially became the prime minister very soon. In 1925, he gave himself the title of “Il Duce” which means “the leader”, and “held power as dictator until his demise” during the Second World War (Tumblr).
