Benito Mussolini (1883-1945)
“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” –Benito Mussolini (Brainy Quote)
Benito Mussolini was born in 1883 and shot by Italian partisans in 1945. He was the founder of Fascism and dictator of Italy between 1922 and 1943.
With the family background of a socialist blacksmith and a schoolmistress, Mussolini put much effort into “avoiding the Swiss police and hard work” as a revolutionary socialist when he was young (Textbook 67). Later in 1912, he became an editor of a socialist press, but it did not last long since he supported Italy to enter the First World War. Mussolini funded Fascisti party in March 1919 with the intention of “restoring law and order to Italian society” (Workbook 49). In 1925, he made himself dictator of Italy with the title “Il Duce”.
Mussolini was involved in many historical events such as March on Rome (1922), The Lateran Accords (1929), Invasion to Abyssinia (1935) and so on. In addition, he “allied Italy with Nazi Germany and Japan” in the Second World War (BBC).
